Vacation in Paradise – Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti

Written by Robin Gilmore

Located in the South Pacific Ocean and a 9-hour flight from Los Angeles, the Islands of Tahiti offer a dream vacation.

Bora Bora is a romantic island known for its gorgeous sunsets, turquoise lagoons, tropical fish, and white sands.

Moorea is a heart-shaped island that’s a top honeymoon destination. Eight mountain peaks rise from its lagoon, and it’s a great home base for glass-bottom boat tours, scuba divers, and snorkelers.

Tahiti offers an authentic island experience with everything from local markets to a lively nightlife scene.

This past February, Eric & Jess headed to French Polynesia to enjoy amazing Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti.

Q. How was your vacation?

A. I think it’s the first trip we’ve ever taken where all the travel went completely smoothly. Both of the hotels (Le Bora Bora & Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort) were beautiful, and I thought we were at each place for just the right amount of time. Four days each were enough to see pretty much everything in Moorea and Bora Bora, and one day to look around Papeete was perfect too.

Q. What tours / activities did you do?

A. We loved snorkeling off the deck of our bungalow!

Some of the other cool things were did were biking around the islands, hiking Magic Mountain and Mata Pupu, an ATV tour in Bora Bora, clear kayaking in Moorea, and snokeling in Bora Bora and Moorea.

The Papeete city market is very cool. There were all kinds of people selling all kinds of random things. There were a lot of pearls.

Q. Is there anything you wish you did differently or do you have any advice for future travelers to French Polynesia?

A. We stopped for a roadside smoothie and jam tasting while biking in Moorea, which was a bad idea. We were fine with water everywhere we went, but not that smoothie. Our advice is to make sure you buy your smoothies from reputable sources.

Taxis are very expensive. We rented e-bikes on each island, which were awesome. In Bora Bora and Moorea, you could cycle the perimeter of the island in a day on an e-bike. Our e-bikes had to be returned by 5:00pm so it was hard to go anywhere for dinner. It was helpful that a couple of restaurants would pick you up at your resort for free.

We would’ve liked to try more restaurants, but we ended up eating at the resorts a lot. The food was good but expensive.

We both should’ve brought our own snorkel gear. The gear in Moorea wasn’t very good and Le Bora Bora ran out.
