The Speyside Whisky Trail, Scotland

The Speyside Whisky Trail.

Scotland · Moray & Speyside

Speyside is the beating heart of Scotch whisky. Tucked into the gentle, green country of Moray east of Inverness, this small region holds roughly half of all Scotland's malt distilleries, names you will know by heart, from Glenfiddich and Glenlivet to The Macallan and Aberlour.

The pleasure here is unhurried. You follow quiet roads from one distillery to the next, touring the copper stills and dunnage warehouses, then settling in for a tasting of the region's smooth, sherried single malts. The salmon-rich River Spey winds through it all, crossed by Telford's elegant old bridges, and stone villages sit with the Cairngorms rising just beyond.

Give it two or three days and bring a designated driver, or let us arrange a guided tour, so everyone can taste. Time it for spring and you can catch the Spirit of Speyside festival, when the whole region opens its doors.
