Dreams Onyx Punta Cana

What’s It Like to Stay at Dreams Onyx Punta Cana?

This Hyatt-owned all-inclusive resort is family-friendly and attached to another Hyatt-owned resort, the Breathless Punta Cana, which is accessible for guests over 18. Breathless Punta Cana offers a casino and adult-centric entertainment, while Dreams Onyx caters to families with family-friendly entertainment. Recently, our agent, Brian Chima, had a chance to visit Dreams Onyx and tell us about his experience.

Grounds and Amenities

The resort grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained, with manicured gardens and pools. There is a large main plaza area with bars, shops, an ice cream parlor, a burger joint, a coffee shop, and a sports bar. The on-site waterpark features four slides, a lazy river, a jet pool, and a pool with a bar. Additional amenities include a spa, gym, wedding facilities, and nightly entertainment at the theater. The main pool at Dreams Onyx is a standout feature, offering a lazy river, multiple slides, entertainment, and a swim-up bar, making it one of the best pools that Brian has experienced in his travels.

Dining Experiences

During his time at Onyx, Brian had a chance to visit many of the resort’s several restaurants. Brian really enjoyed the resort’s hibachi restaurant called Spice. He notes that the fried rice, egg, and beef dishes were all incredible but he didn’t care for the sushi there.

The main buffet at Dreams Onyx has about every type of food you can imagine, making it a great place for families with small kids to eat. You’ll be able to find fresh fruit, tacos, pizza, and pasta, although Brian wasn’t crazy about the pizza and pasta there. According to Brian, you can order a beef dish anywhere on the resort, and it’ll be a great bet that the dish will be superb.

Accommodation Details

Brian stayed in a junior suite pool view room (non-preferred club). Had Brian gotten a preferred club room, it would have given him access to special areas of the beach, the preferred club lounge and pool, as well as a better location closer to the beach. The wifi on the resort is super fast in the rooms and lobby but “as soon as you step out of your room to the pool, the wifi was lacking.”

Resort Features

While Dreams Onyx does not have a casino, guests over 18 can visit the nearby Breathless Punta Cana for casino entertainment. You can also visit the sister resort Secrets Tides, although you need to be 18 or over for that resort as well.

Key Takeaways

Brian really enjoyed his time at Dreams Onyx, and was really impressed by the pool. ” The pool was amazing.  The resort was very walkable with lots to do for kids and families.  It’s imperative you get a preferred club room and keep your food expectations lowered and focused on what the resort is good at: like fresh fruit and Dominican cuisine. “

Family Friendliness

Brian confirmed that Dreams Onyx Punta Cana is not family-friendly as it is exclusively for guests aged 18 and older.

For those looking for a resort that’s perfect for couples in the Dominican Republic, we recommend the nearby Secrets Tides Punta Cana or Secrets Royal Beach
